Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI)

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator or MBTI is a self report instrument designed to help make natural differences in psychological types more understandable and useful in everyday life. Taking the MBTI inventory and receiving feedback helps couples identify their unique combinations of personality preferences. This information enhances individual understanding of how our personalities create natural strengths and potential areas for growth. MBTI helps couples appreciate how their partner's personality differs from their own and how different parts of their personalities influence attitudes and behavior. This insight significantly reduces couple miscommunication and misunderstandings.

After more than 50 years of research and development, the current MBTI is the most widely utilized scientific instrument for understanding normal personality differences. Because it accurately explains basic patterns in human functioning, the MBTI is used in a wide variety of applications. These include management development, leadership training, organizational development and career exploration. More than two million Indicators are administered annually in the United States. The MBTI is also used internationally and has been translated into more than 30 languages.

Family Background / Previous Relationships Impact Assessments.

These self report instruments were designed to develop a clearer understanding of how our families of origin and/or previous relationships affect our present situations. A series of thought provoking and insightful questions examine what we may have learned about couple communication, conflict resolution and emotional expression. The open ended essay type questions give individuals and couples the opportunity to explore their earliest exposures to how relationships function. Particular attention is focused on discovering any "Rotten Rules" or counter productive behavior patterns which partners may have learned.

Taylor-Johnson Temperament Analysis (T-JTA)

This instrument serves as a quick and effective method of measuring a number of important personality variables and behavioral tendencies. These variables work together to influence personal, social and marital success. Eighteen specific personality traits are compared and contrasted to develop a comprehensive picture of how the individual sees himself or herself. Couples are evaluated utilizing what T-JTA describes as a crisscross format. This process evaluates how people perceive their partners as well as how they perceive themselves. The information is presented in an easy to understand visual/graph format. The instrument can be re-administered at intervals to measure personal growth and changes in couple perceptions.
